Congratulations, you survived the Black Death! With your new time-travelling car still in one piece, we have a new historical investigation to complete.
We need to find out how the world became so small. Not literally- we know the world has always been the same physical size... But today we could text or skype anyone in the world, at anytime. Today we could board a plane and arrive in Australia within 14 hours! How did this modern world become so connected, how do we have so many global interactions between cultures? The answer lies in the accomplishments of the Renaissance. So strap in, you are headed to Italy in the 1450's to observe some of the most important innovations in mankind's history! |
SettingWelcome to the great Republic of Sienna, the year is 1,450 CE, and the Renaissance or rebirth of the arts and culture in Italy is in full swing. As an introduction to the energetic, vibrant, and colorful nature of the renaissance, we will start at the great Palio di Siena- Italy's oldest horse race. Circling the city square, or Piazza, 10 riders representing each of the 10 city wards race twice per year for bragging rights still today. As you watch this video keep in mind:

3. Describe one way Renaissance Italy looks similar to Winston-Salem today, describe one way it looks different.
